ELVIRA
MUNTONI
Elvira Muntoni
Born in Italy in 1979, she has dedicated the last fifteen years to architecture, working with several studios in Barcelona, Brussels and Florence. In 2011 she collaborated in New York with the artist Tom Sachs and taught Modeling Techniques at IED Florence.
Always drawn to multidisciplinary art, her practice combines handmade printmaking, embroidery, paper cutouts, ceramics, textile processes and environmental art. She uses these materials to weave together fragments of reality, memories, roots and interpretations, creating a space for personal exploration and research.
Her images are poetic compositions reflecting on identity, memory, emotion and the layers of consciousness and unconsciousness. Sometimes playful, other times obscure, her works hint at fate, possibility and perception, seeking a balance between opposing forces. This becomes her own expression of multiplicity.
Deeply interested in materials, processes and human traditions, her passion for paper led her to Japan, where she trained in traditional washi papermaking.
